YouBimo is a discovery and navigation site built around its own search: browsing the home page and search results requires no account, and we run no analytics, statistics or ad-tracking scripts. Only when you actively create a YouBimo pass do we store the minimum information the account needs, as described below.
Scope
This policy covers the pages we operate on youbimo.com and its subdomains, which are served and searched through YouBimo’s own backend. It explains when and how we process information and what rights you have.
What we do not collect
We run no analytics, statistics or ad-tracking scripts and use no cross-site tracking cookies. While you browse pages and search results without signing in, we build no user profile and show you no advertising.
Search and search logs
Search on this site is performed by YouBimo’s own search service, over content indexes we maintain ourselves (published projects, apps and notes, plus a curated directory of major tech sites). Your query is never forwarded to third-party search engines such as Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo. To power "trending searches" and to investigate abnormal traffic, each search records the keyword, language, number of results, response time, the caller’s IP address and the time of the request. These logs are used only for those operational purposes, never for profiling or marketing, and are purged after a limited period.
Account information (the pass)
Creating a YouBimo pass is optional and is provided by a separate account centre (uc.youbimo.com). On sign-up we collect a username and email; phone number and display name are optional. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes — nobody, including us, can see the original. After sign-in, the access token lives only in your browser’s memory and is re-issued automatically on reload using the refresh token in an HttpOnly cookie; it is revoked the moment you sign out. That cookie is set by the account centre and cannot be read by JavaScript.
Cookies and local storage
The data we write to your browser is minimal: your language preference is kept in a cookie named lang (valid for one year, used only to render the language you chose); your colour theme is kept in the theme key in localStorage; and only after you sign in is a device identifier (yb_device_id) stored in localStorage for display in "signed-in devices" management. Clearing your browser data removes these. Apart from the refresh-token cookie set by the account centre, we set no cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.
Hosting and access logs
This site is hosted on YouBimo’s own infrastructure, and search and content both come from our backend. To keep the service secure and available, our infrastructure keeps standard access records (such as IP address, request time and User-Agent) as is customary. This information is used for security and troubleshooting, not for profiling or marketing.
Third-party links
Search results may include links to external websites (including the tech-site directory we curate). Once you click away from YouBimo, the privacy policy of the site you visit applies to your activity there, and we are not responsible for its data handling.
Use and sharing of information
Search logs are used only for trending-search statistics and abnormal-traffic investigation; account information is used only to create your account, verify sign-ins and recover access. We never sell your personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with unrelated third parties — except where required by law or strictly necessary to provide the core service (such as hosting infrastructure).
Data security
All traffic uses HTTPS, account passwords are salted and hashed, and session tokens are short-lived and kept only in memory. We follow data minimisation: if something can work without collecting data, we do not collect it.
Retention and deletion
Search logs are kept for a limited operational period and then purged; account information is kept for as long as your account exists. You can sign out at any time; to delete your account or related data, email us via the contact below and we will process it within a reasonable period and confirm back.
Your rights
Under applicable law (including, but not limited to, the GDPR and personal information protection legislation), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, restrict or object to its processing, and lodge a complaint. Children’s privacy
This site is directed at a general audience and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. If you are a guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we update the date at the top of this page and note it on the home page. For significant changes we will notify you in a more prominent way, such as an on-site announcement.
